A great pleasure for the Consul General to award Sonia Cheng with the title of “Officer of the Order of the Star of Italy” (Ufficiale dell'Ordine della Stella d'Italia)  yesterday, conferred by the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella recently.

The Star of Italy is an important Italian honour bestowed upon distinguished foreign nationals for their extraordinary achievements in building partnerships between Italy and their Country in the field economic, cultural or scientific fields.

As one of the most dynamic businesswomen in Asia , Sonia Cheng leads one of the world's leading hospitality groups, Rosewood Hotel Group, which is implementing an ambitious investment plan in Italy. Under her leadership, Rosewood acquired the management of a prestigious resort in Castiglione del Bosco in Tuscany a few years ago, which has quickly become a popular destination for foreign visitors. Rosewood is now preparing the opening of two new hotels in Rome and Venice.

On the occasion of the Award Presentation, the Consul General expressed his appreciation to Ms. Cheng for having chosen Italy as the group's main development market in Europe. He also emphasised how the announcement of the opening of Rosewood Rome, in the midst of the pandemic, represents a concrete sign of confidence in Italy's Capital and its extraordinary tourism potential.
